CLE: Public Defenders and Police Accountability: Identifying & Preserving Civil Rights Claims in Kansas

We are pleased to have Samuel G. MacRoberts, Kansas Justice Institute, Chris Joseph, Joseph, Hollander & Craft LLC, and Colin Shaw, Assistant Public Defender, present this virtual CLE for us and to have Michelle Dahl, Legal Fellow with the National Police Accountability Project moderate the panel.  Public defenders are uniquely positioned to uncover police misconduct and safeguard their clients’ civil rights. In this 60-minute session, a panel of seasoned civil rights and criminal defense practitioners will show you how to transform everyday casework into meaningful accountability tools. You’ll learn to spot potential civil rights claims early, preserve them through plea negotiations and criminal proceedings, and connect with civil rights counsel while staying true to your mandate for zealous criminal defense.
