The BIDS Training Department is dedicated to strengthening public defense across Kansas by supporting the growth, connection, and success of every member of teams. We believe that high-quality training is essential to providing excellent, client-centered representation—representation rooted in Advocacy, Dignity, and Justice. Our programs are designed with attorneys, investigators, mitigation specialists, legal assistants and office staff in mind, creating opportunities to sharpen skills, build connections, and stay inspired in the work of defending our clients.
Annual Conference
Each year, we bring together our whole agency for our two-day Annual Conference. With a wide variety of sessions, we aim to ensure that everyone can find training tailored to their role in supporting Kansas clients and communities.
Kansas Defender Academy
For new attorneys, we host the Kansas Defender Academy: New Attorney Training. This week-long, hands-on program is designed to build skills, confidence, and connections right from the start of their careers in public defense.
Leadership Conference
Our two-day Annual Leadership Conference provides tools and strategies to strengthen leadership and managers. It’s a space for current leaders to grow, share ideas, and support one another.
Ongoing Training
Learning doesn’t stop after a conference. That’s why we offer bi-weekly trainings and CLEs throughout the year, giving defenders practical tools and ongoing support to meet new challenges with confidence. Click the “Training Calendar” button below to see what is coming.
